Our branch is extremely proud of our partnership with Parramatta City Council to create a fabulous new mural in the heart of Epping. The Council undertook a tender process that attracted a large number of highly qualified and talented artists offering their services to the project.
A thorough process was undertaken that we were involved in, to whittle the applications down to a short list before selecting the ultimate winner of the commission, Damien Mitchell.
There was also a community feedback program to find out what kinds of ideas and themes might work within the mural and plenty of great ideas came forward. Common themes were to represent the rich past and eciting future of epping, and the beauty and wonder of the natural flora and fauna. Damien himself was very dedicated to ensure his work was going to be just right for the location, so he spent a lot of time walking around Epping, talking to passers-by, business owners and interested locals.
One of the reasons Damien was chosen was not just his amazing portfolio but his ability to adapt to almost any situation and style to deliver something unique. Everyone agrees that he achieved this incredibly well, wth bustrs of vivid colours, photoreallistic depiction of local plans and animals and an overall composition that told the Epping story perfectly.
We are most impressed and so happy to have been able to partner with Parramatta Council on this project. We hope there will be many more similar projects in the pipeline as we continue our commitment to the local community.
