People in crisis often struggle to find or afford legal help when going through family law matters. That’s why Horizons Family Law Centre is an important, not-for-profit community legal service in the northern Sydney area.
In 2023, Community Bank Epping’s manager, Stephen Hu, chose Horizons as one of his charities to help at our annual Staff Grants night. That started a conversation between our bank and Horizons on the demand for their services.
Horizons offer free or low cost legal services, and rely mainly on grants and donations as they receive no government funding. They are often a first port of call for anyone in the community experiencing family breakdown. They target their help towards people with no other access to a lawyer who are dealing with domestic violence and parenting disputes.
One of their clinics operates in Thornleigh. They approached our community grants program for assistance in additional fit out and equipment to help the work of their lawyers and were successful in getting an initial grant in late 2023. Now, we have helped again with funds for important IT upgrades.
This is just one example of how our grants program assists local services helping local residents.
