Community and not-for-profit groups often struggle to find community facilities to hold events and meetings that are affordable and convenient to residents.
Epping Rotary saw an opportunity to fill this gap, when they became aware that the old Guide Hall on Blaxland Road had been handed back to the City of Parramatta. Ironically, Rotary originally built the hall, but there had been no Guide group operating there for years.
They approached council to take over management of the building, and then applied for a grant from Community Bank Epping for refurbishment and new equipment. With the resources of their members, and lots of work to sort out the details, the new Rotary Community Hall has now opened. Groups can book it for one off or longer term usage – just go to their website: eppingrotaryhall.com.au
Epping is lucky to have lots of local sports clubs that use community facilities to offer a range of activities. But in order to keep costs low, they need help with larger projects and key resources.
Last year, two clubs approached Community Bank Epping for help with canteen fit out costs.
City of Parramatta council has built a terrific new facility building at Boronia Park, but Epping Eastwood FC needed to buy the equipment for the canteen. Similarly, Hornsby Council has built a new change room/toilet/storage building at Ron Payne Oval in North Epping. But in order to run the canteen, North Epping Rangers needed to source everything from a kettle upwards!
Both canteens are now open, and the soccer teams and their supporters can enjoy refreshments each game. Support your local club (canteens are a vital income stream) by coming along for a coffee or snack on Saturdays!
