Through the Community Bank Epping’s grants program, a range of projects have been undertaken in the first half of 2024 that help local families through educational programs and resources. It’s harder than ever to raise funds for those extra items that can really make a difference to children – so our grants are targeted to make that difference.
New play equipment and furniture has helped the Mini Movers Playgroup at All Saints Church in North Epping offer preschool kids and their carers a great play program each week. You can join them on Wednesday mornings during term time.
Epping North Public School has an incredible community garden project spearheaded by teacher, Mitchell Stone. Epping Rotary helped with the initial build of raised beds, a shed and composting area. With our grant funding, the space now includes stingless bee hives, fruit trees, a hanging garden, fountain, seedling areas and lots of vegies! There is even a new Japanese-themed area. All plants have important information. This helps the whole area be incorporated into a wide variety of learning from kindy to Year 6. The students even help with the weeding!
Epping Public School has nearly doubled in size in recent years so its playground space is a key area for all students. The P&C asked for grant funding to install hand ball court markings – the favourite game of many students and fun break activity.
Ngarala Public School might be the newest primary school in the area but it is growing fast. Their application was to help them increase their technology literacy. They wanted to purchase more school-based laptops. A second grant allowed for equipment and resources to be purchased for a peer to peer mentoring program, helping students with English as a second language.
Cheltenham Girls High School P&C had a problem. They want to offer a wide variety of secondhand uniforms to students which especially helps parents facing cost pressures. But they needed a way to organise and display the stock. Our grant came to the rescue and allowed them buy storage and display equipment.
The last few years have been challenging for many children, and seen a rise in anxiety and trauma response behaviour. Local charity, KidsXpress, focusses on helping parents and carers to support their children with proactive programs. They received a grant to run training courses at local schools, helping parents assist their children through skills based training.
